EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Summer Sounds series will present its final concert at 2 p.m. Aug. 10 in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

Pianist Barbara Young, lecturer of music and theatre arts, will present "Dedication," a program of romantic piano music by Brahms, Liszt and Clara Schumann, including both Liszt's and Schumann's transcriptions of the Robert Schumann song "Widmung (Dedication)." All works on the program are interconnected by their dedications from one composer to another within this small group.

Young's American credits include several world premieres of chamber works; recitals with members of the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony and other leading orchestras; and solo and collaborative performances at the Interlochen Arts Camp. She has accompanied faculty members from prestigious universities and conservatories such as Indiana University and London's Royal Academy of Music. She has given recital and conference performances in Canada, France, Switzerland, Germany, Italy and Finland in a variety of venues, including traditional concert halls, a palace, a music store, a furniture store and a Baroque church. In addition to operating her own private piano studio, Young currently teaches classes at UW-Eau Claire, where she frequently presents collaborative performances with faculty colleagues and visiting artists. Her solo CD "Music for Heart's-ease" continues to be distributed to individuals and community groups.

Summer Sounds, presented by UW-Eau Claire's department of music and theatre arts, is a series of seven solo and chamber music recitals featuring weekly Sunday afternoon performances of music for winds, voice, guitar and piano. The series provides an opportunity for Eau Claire audiences to hear quality classical music in the summertime and to interact with musicians from the faculty and community. The atmosphere is casual and informal.

Summer Sounds concerts are free and open to all.
