UW-Eau Claire Artists Series Receives Wisconsin Arts Board Grant

RELEASED: July 28, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — The Artists Series at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire has received a $2,500 grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board. The grant was awarded through the Art Board's Creation and Presentation Grant Program.

State grants are awarded through a competitive process. This grant indicates that the Artists Series provides the highest level of quality in its programs, community outreach and administration. The Artists Series uses student-allocated fees and grants, like this one, to offset costs and maintain low ticket prices for world-renowned performers that the series brings to the Chippewa Valley.

Public support makes it possible for the Artists Series to reach new audiences, foster community development, provide the highest quality programming and develop models for integrating the arts into the curriculum. In addition to supporting the series' performances, funding also helps make it possible for outreach activities. During the 2007-08 season the Artists Series sponsored numerous free outreach activities to people of all ages, from an instrument petting zoo for elementary-aged children to a master dance class for adults to a daytime performance in an assisted living facility. Similar opportunities are being designed for the 2008-09 season.

The Wisconsin Arts Board is the state agency that nurtures creativity, cultivates expression, promotes the arts, supports the arts in education, stimulates community and economic development, and serves as a resource for people of every culture and heritage in Wisconsin's communities. The Arts Board's grants to arts and community organizations help make programs available to broad audiences, keep ticket prices down and allow groups to understand innovative programming.

The Artists Series also is funded by the students of UW-Eau Claire and is administered by the University Centers Activities and Programs office.
