EAU CLAIRE — Nicole Poehling brings more than seven years of experience to her new position as associate director of annual giving for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Foundation.

Poehling, who graduated from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in December 2006, has worked since high school for American Benefit Limited, a telemarketing insurance agency in La Crosse. She also has fundraising experience, having organized a benefit to raise funds for victims of mudslides in Brownsville, Minn., and developed a 5K run/walk to benefit the Strong Kids Program at the La Crosse Family YMCA.

"I've always had a passion for fundraising and helping those in need," Poehling said. "This position at UW-Eau Claire makes it possible for me to help students as well as get more experience in fundraising."

In her new position, Poehling will be responsible for overseeing the Telefund, an annual fundraising event for the UW-Eau Claire Foundation. Last year the Telefund generated more than $547,000 from private support, primarily from alumni. These funds benefit students directly through faculty-student research collaborations, Blugold fellowships, internships, study abroad programs, service-learning projects and other university efforts. The Telefund recruits students to make the calls to alumni.

"I'm looking forward to working with the students and helping instill in them an understanding of what the Foundation does and how their work in the call center helps them and other students," Poehling said.

Poehling, who was promoted four times at American Benefit Limited, progressing from surveyor to manager, says she is looking forward to contacting young alumni.

"I want to create an awareness of the Foundation and let alumni know how they can give and that no matter how much they give it will benefit students," Poehling said. "I hope to help them see the benefit of giving back even if they can only give a small amount."
