Small Business Development Center Sponsors
Program on Turning Concepts into Profit

RELEASED: Jan. 31, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — The Small Business Development Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education/UW-Extension will present "Idea to Income" from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Thursday, March 27, at the Royal Credit Union Corporate Center in downtown Eau Claire. The program will help individuals determine the feasibility of their product concept and locate resources needed for developing, protecting and prototyping.

Program presenters are Sandra Beccue, research manager at the Wisconsin Innovation Service Center at UW-Whitewater; Derek Preston, a Ruder Ware attorney who concentrates his practice in intellectual property, business law and real estate; Jerome Johnson, professor in the engineering and technology department and director of the Center for Innovation and Development at UW-Stout.

Topics covered include the following:

  • Determining product demand and market potential
  • Identifying competition
  • Legally protecting yourself and your product
  • Locating and using prototype developers
  • Getting your idea ready for sale

The program fee is $89 per person. Reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities will be made if requested at least two weeks in advance.
