L. E. Phillips Planetarium
Announces Spring Schedule

RELEASED: Jan. 30, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — The L.E. Phillips Planetarium on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire announces its spring program and invites stargazers and astronomy buffs to experience the stars.

Public shows are offered at 7 p.m. Tuesdays for adults and youth older than 10; children's shows are presented at 11 a.m. Saturdays and are designed for ages 10 and younger.

space imageA planetarium presenter will discuss the night sky and help audience members learn to identify constellations. Each show features either a particular topic or a multimedia presentation, and a question and answer period is included in each presentation.

The Tuesday night shows in February will feature "Ancient Horizons" which explores the astronomy of the ancient Egyptians. March will feature "More Than Meets the Eye" which discusses where various celestial objects are located in the night sky as well as what they look like through large telescopes. (Inquire about closed captioning for this show.) April will feature "The Stargazer" with celebrity narrator Nichelle Nichols, who starred in the original Star Trek TV series and movies as "Uhura."

Larry, Cat in SpaceThe Saturday children's shows will feature "Zubenelgenubi's Magic Sky" in February, "Larry, Cat in Space" in March and "Secrets of the Cardboard Rocket" in April.

There are no shows scheduled March 15-24 due to spring break and no children's show April 19. Programs will continue through the summer months.

The L.E. Phillips Planetarium is located in the north end of Phillips Science Hall on the UW-Eau Claire campus. Admission is $2 at the door, and free parking is available on weekends and evenings.
