Students Asked to Cast Online Votes
to Amend Student Body Constitution

RELEASED: Jan. 30, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — For the first time at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, students will be able to vote online to accept or reject a newly proposed amendment to the Student Body Constitution. Online voting will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5.

Student Senate authorized the new electronic voting process for this specific election. A campus wide e-mail will be sent to all students notifying them of the election with a link to connect to the page where they can cast their votes. If the new process is successful, it may be used to replace physical polling places in the future.

The amendment asks whether students support changing the general election dates from the first or second week of March to the second or third week of April.

"Because this is a constitutional change, it needs to be approved by the students," said Student Senate president Raymond French.
