Win Seven Awards at CASE V Conference

CASE V awards logoEAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire advancement and communications staff members received seven awards at the 2007 Council for Advancement and Support of Education Great Lakes District V conference, held Dec. 9-11 in Chicago.

UW-Eau Claire was one of 64 educational institutions honored as part of the 2007 Pride of CASE V awards program. A total of 122 awards were presented to CASE V members.

Headquartered in Washington, D.C., CASE is the professional organization for advancement professionals at all levels who work in alumni relations, communications and development.

CASE District V includes more than 400 member institutions in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. The district awards competition honored advancement and communications professionals in 46 categories. Judging for the competition is conducted by advancement professionals outside of the Great Lakes District.

Ann Hoffman, senior editor in UW-Eau Claire's News Bureau, was appointed to a two-year term on the CASE V board of directors last year and serves as chair of the Pride of CASE V awards program. Mari Jo Janke, director of the Publications Office, serves as vice chair.

Gold Award winners were:

  • Best Practices in Alumni Relations category: John Bachmeier, director of alumni relations, and Mike Rindo, executive director of University Communications and special assistant to the chancellor, for UW Spirit Day and Posters in the Rotunda at the Capitol.
  • Excellence in Photography, Sports: Rick Mickelson, photography coordinator in Learning and Technology Services, for "Stroke, Stroke, Stroke," a photo used on a university swim team poster.

Silver Award winners were:

  • Best Alumni/Institution Magazine: Hoffman; Sheila Pederson, senior artist in the Publications Office; Mickelson; and Bill Hoepner, digital asset manager/photographer in LTS, for The View, UW-Eau Claire's alumni publication.
  • Best Electronic Newsletter: Gretchen Hutterli, assistant dean for external affairs in the College of Business; Kou Thao, former graphic designer for the College of Business; and 2007 business graduate Jamie Wilson, for the College of Business Jump Right In Electronic Newsletters.
  • Excellence in Photography, Campus Environment: Hoepner, for "Research," a photo used in UW-Eau Claire's viewbook and other publications.
  • Excellence in Photography, Photo Essay: Mickelson, for "Behind the Scenes Blugold Marching Band," a multimedia presentation used in the online University Bulletin.

Bronze Award winner was:

  • Excellence in Photography, People and Places: Hoepner, for a portrait of student Deborah Chopper, which was used on a Nontraditional Student Services information card.
