for the Week of Jan. 28

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Monday, Jan. 28. All events are free and open to the public.

Tuesday, Jan. 29:

  • The Vecchione/Erdahl Duo will perform a guest artists recital at 7:30 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Featuring Carrie Vecchione on oboe and English horn and Rolf Erdahl on double bass, the ensemble specializes in "chamber music of a different color." The concert will open with a piece composed for and premiered by the Vecchione/Erdahl Duo: Timothy Goplerud's "Vignettes from the Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane." They will continue with "Louisiana Suite," which includes three pieces by different composers: Dinos Constantinides, Shane Monds and Vernon Sandoz III. Next they will perform "Three Songs for Oboe and Double Bass after Poems by Pablo Neruda" by Andrea Clearfield. The first half will conclude with "Three Movements" by Goplerud. The second half of the concert will open with Goplerud's arrangement of "Round Midnight" by Thelonius Monk and continue with Goplerud's "It Takes Two " The recital will close with another piece composed for this ensemble: Adrian Mann's "Canzone Vecchione."
