EAU CLAIRE — "Revelations of Mann," a one-person play written and performed by David Mann, will be presented Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The Artists Series performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Schofield Auditorium.

"Revelations of Mann" is a comedy about a young actor — a Lutheran teaching in a Catholic high school who faces issues of career, life and faith. The autobiographical coming-of-age story introduces a yearbook full of characters — the crotchety theater-department head, the skeptical principal, the long-suffering school secretary, and the entire student cast of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream."

"David Mann is a hoot, a gem, a joy to watch," wrote the Saint Paul Pioneer Press. "Mann demonstrates his writing acumen — an ear for detail, an eye for selection — and delivers a performance full of enthusiasm, personality, and depth," wrote the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

The performance will be interpreted in its entirety for the deaf and hard of hearing.

A professional director, actor and playwright, Mann has written five original solo shows that have been performed in theaters across the Midwest. "Revelations of Mann" premiered in January 2003 at St. Paul's Great American History Theatre and now tours nationally. Mann's other plays include "Corleone: The Shakespearean Godfather," which was a success at the 2005 Minnesota Fringe Festival, and "Queens of Burlesque," produced in the 2007 season at the History Theatre.

A pre-event dessert discussion with Mann, hosted by Dr. Blake Westerlund of the UW-Eau Claire department of English, will be held in The Dulany of Davies Center from 6 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 in advance or at the door.

Tickets for the Artists Series performance are $15 for the public, $13 for those 62 and older and UW System or Chippewa Valley Technical College faculty and staff, and $5 for those 17 and younger and UW System or CVTC students.

Patrons may also charge their tickets to MasterCard or Visa when they order by phone. Call 715-836-3727 or, outside the immediate Eau Claire area, call toll-free 800-949-UWEC. A $3 handling fee will be added to all telephone charge orders.

The Artists Series is supported in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the state of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts. Wisconsin Public Radio and Community Television have contributed generous promotional support. Best Western Trail Lodge Hotel & Suites (715-838-9989) at 3340 Mondovi Road is the exclusive accommodations partner for the Artists Series.

David Mann's performance is also supported by the Performing Arts Fund, a program of Arts Midwest funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, with additional contributions from General Mills Foundation, Land O' Lakes Foundation and the Wisconsin Arts Board.

Funded by the students of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, the Artists Series is administered by the Activities and Programs office.
