Entrepreneurial Training Series Now Accepting Applications

RELEASED: Jan. 3, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Small Business Development Center and Continuing Education are accepting applications for an entrepreneurial training series that will begin Feb. 12.

Sessions will run from 6:30-9:15 p.m. Tuesdays Feb. 12-April 29 in the Haas Fine Arts Center. Class size is limited to ensure individual questions can be addressed so early registration is encouraged.

The 12-session training series will focus on the fundamentals of small business management, creating a business plan and attracting potential investors.

"The series is designed for those who are serious about starting a business and those already in businesses who need structured training," said SBDC Business Counseling Coordinator Jim Mishefske. "It is intended for people who need a comprehensive business plan for funding, expansion, planning or evaluation of their business idea."

The Wisconsin Department of Commerce will provide $750 tuition assistance to qualified applicants who complete the program, including the preparation of a written business plan. With the tuition assistance, the actual cost to participate in the series is $250.

The spring 2008 series schedule is:

  • Feb. 12 Feasibility/Business Plan/Online Research
  • Feb. 19 Understanding Your Market/Developing a Strategy
  • Feb. 26 Small Business Advertising and Promotion
  • March 4 E-Commerce/Web site Development
  • March 11 Legal Issues and Risk Management
  • March 18 Business Plan Writing Workshop
  • March 25 Financial Management
  • April 1 Customer Service & Time Management
  • April 8 Developing Your Financial Statements
  • April 15 Technology and Your Small Business
  • April 22 Recordkeeping & Taxes
  • April 29 Selling Your Business and Yourself

By the end of the series participants should have a completed comprehensive business plan. Individualized free counseling from the Small Business Development Center is available to program participants as they work on their business plans during as well as after the series.
