Three Service-Learning Fellowships Available
for UW-Eau Claire Students

RELEASED: Feb. 25, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — Three University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Foundation fellowships will be available this spring for UW-Eau Claire students interested in service-learning projects.

Applications for the Sally Webb International Service Fellowship, the Mary Roelli Hilfiker Service Fellowship and the Ryan Prechel Community Service Fellowship are available in the Center for Service-Learning. The fellowships were first awarded in 2006-07.

The $500 Sally Webb International Service Fellowship is available to an outstanding student who wants to complete a service project in an international setting. The application deadline is March 1.

The Mary Roelli Hilfiker Service Fellowship will award $1,000 to an outstanding sophomore or junior who wants to complete a service project in Wisconsin, nationally or internationally. The application deadline is April 7.

Part of the Webb and Hilfiker fellowship funds must be used for supplies to fulfill the service-learning project, but some may be used to cover travel and lodging expenses. Recipients will get half the grant to prepare for the project and the other half when the project is completed. Recipients must have a plan of action and an outline of project arrangements, define a target audience and include a statement of the anticipated outcome.

The Ryan Prechel Community Service Fellowship will award $1,250 to a student or group of students who want to complete a community-service project. The deadline is April 16.

The Prechel fellowship may be used by one student for a specific activity or by a group of students to participate in an organized service activity sponsored by the university, including Alternate Winter Break and Summer Service Fellowship. The activity must directly impact the lives of those served and have a specific purpose and a timeline, and a report must be made of the impact of the project. The recipient will receive half the grant at the onset of the project and the other half at the conclusion of the activity.

For applications for any of the fellowships, contact the Center for Service-Learning at 715-836-4649 or srvlearn@uwec.edu.
