UW-Eau Claire Art Students Join Effort
to Raise Funds for Local Food Bank

ceramic bowlsEAU CLAIRE — Ceramics students from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire department of art & design are again pitching in to help fight hunger in the Chippewa Valley.

Assistant professor of art Susan O'Brien, UW-Eau Claire students and area potters are donating 200 handmade ceramic bowls to Feed My People Food Bank for the upcoming "Empty Bowls" fundraiser, a benefit serving soup, specialty breads and desserts for lunch from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1314 E. Lexington Blvd., Eau Claire. New this year will be a separate entrance for a carry-out option.

Additional bowls are being donated by both professional potters and high school ceramics students from 8 of the 14 counties served by Feed My People. UW-Eau Claire students also will give demonstrations on a potter's wheel, and a high school jazz combo will provide music for the event.

The soups are being donated by Fox Run, Houligan's, the Eau Claire Country Club and Randy's Family Restaurant. The bread will be from Great Harvest Bread Co., and dessert will be provided by Indianhead Foods, Kwik Trip, Luther Hospital, Panera, Ron's Castle Foods, Sacred Heart Hospital and Sam's Club. More than 90 area businesses are sponsoring the event.

Ticket prices are $15 for dinner and a hand-designed ceramic bowl, $8 for dinner alone, and $40 for a family pack of two bowls and dinner for up to five individuals. Children under age 10 eat free with a paying adult. Bowl numbers are limited; advance purchase of bowl tickets is recommended. Advance tickets are available at Trinity Lutheran Church, the UW-Eau Claire Service Center and Feed My People Food Bank; tickets are also available at the door.

Feed My People Food Bank is a food distribution center that supplies more than 1.4 million pounds of product to 60 area non-profit food assistance programs each year.
