EAU CLAIRE — First Fridays invites senior citizens to a discussion titled "My Experience as a Good Samaritan Kidney Donor" on March 7 with Patti See, author and lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. for breakfast and the program will follow at 9 a.m. at Christ Church Cathedral, located on the corner of Lake and Farwell streets in downtown Eau Claire.

March is National Kidney Donation month, providing the perfect time for Patti See to tell her donor story. See, who received bachelor's and master's degrees in English from UW-Eau Claire in 1990 and 1994, is a senior student services coordinator and teaches developmental education and women's studies courses at UW-Eau Claire.

In July 2005, See donated one of her kidneys to a stranger at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, in Minneapolis. Her presentation will be a first-person account of her journey to becoming the 33rd non-directed donor accepted in Fairview's world-renowned transplant program. More information is available online.

For the safety of the audience, the event will be cancelled if the Eau Claire Area School District cancels or delays classes because of hazardous weather.

First Fridays programs are presented on the first Friday of each month October through May, except in January, at no cost to the senior community. People with season passes that are stamped each month will be eligible for a prize drawing at the May presentation.

The program is funded in part by the UW-Eau Claire Foundation Community Outreach Program for the Arts, the Great Harvest Bread Company and Elliot Roberts.

First Fridays is coordinated by Beverly Soll and Jennifer Brockpahler of the Activities and Programs office and is hosted by Scott and Heather Kirby of Christ Church Cathedral.

The mission of First Fridays is to provide free entertainment and educational experiences for area senior citizens through shared community and university sponsorship.
