Time for Students to Register for
UW-Eau Claire's SUREPAM Program

RELEASED: Feb. 15, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will host the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience in Pure and Applied Mathematics again this year.

Two sessions will be offered: May 27-July 22 and June 24-Aug. 19. The application deadline for both sessions is March 7.

While at SUREPAM, students from across the country will engage in mathematical research, present and defend findings, and document results.

The program is funded by a four-year grant from the National Science Foundation. The grant provides participants with a $2,200 stipend and transportation to Eau Claire.

A summer workshop also is scheduled for July 13-14. During the workshop, students from the SUREPAM program will present their research findings, listen to presentations by mathematicians and meet with faculty from graduate schools.

Guest speakers will include: Amir Assadi, mathematics department, biomedical engineering, UW-Madison; James Keener, mathematics department, bioengineering, University of Utah; and Boyce Griffith, Courant Institute of Mathematics, New York University.

Community members are welcome to sit in on the presentations.

Other financial sponsors to date are UW-Eau Claire's Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and the UW-Eau Claire mathematics department.
