RELEASED: Feb. 13, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — Cabin, an indie-rock band whose music has been favorably compared to that of My Morning Jacket and Radiohead, will play three free concerts at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Feb. 22-23.

The shows will be presented at 11:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. Friday, and at 8 p.m. Saturday in The Cabin, the Davies Center coffeehouse.

"While illustrating simple themes of hopes and fears, the Louisville, KY-based Cabin manages to elevate the everyday and sweeten the bitter moments into cinematic worth," wrote Isthmus of Madison. "Cabin's melodically driven rock explores the depth of sound while never ignoring the gravity of lyrics and melody."

Since its self-released 2005 CD, "Govern the Good Life," Cabin has made legions of fans — including Sufjan Stevens, who personally recommended the group on his MySpace account as "a band you need to check out."

Recently signed to Machine Records, Cabin released a five-song EP, "I Was Here," in May 2007. The title track made a strong debut of No. 7 Most Added at CMJ and remained on the Top 200 list for seven weeks.

"The four piece is fronted by Noah Hewitt-Ball whose angelic vocals can soar and convey a broad range of emotions," wrote Bruce Warren of WXPN. The other members of Cabin are Billy Lease (bass and guitar), David Chale (drums) and Sarah Welder (violin, cello and keyboards).

"Onstage they somehow manage to raise the bar on their atmospheric melodies and indelible pop hooks with both a hypnotic stage presence and jaw-dropping dynamics," wrote ConcertLivewire.

Cabin performances are free and open to all ages. Soft drinks, domestic and imported beer, specialty coffee drinks and tea are sold at evening programs. Proof of age is required for alcohol purchases.
