RELEASED: Feb. 12, 2008
EAU CLAIRE — A campus-community forum later this month will give education leaders a chance to talk with teenagers and their parents about how students can prepare to successfully transition from high school to college.
"Preparedness for Successful Transition to the University" will run from 7-8:30 p.m. Feb. 20 in the Two Rivers Ballroom at the Plaza Hotel in Eau Claire.
"A university education is widely seen as the price of admission to an intensely knowledge-driven, 21st-century economy and society," said Don Christian, a forum presenter and dean of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire College of Arts and Sciences. "But many teens and their parents are unsure how students should prepare for the transition to college and what will be expected of them. During the forum, we'll share information and answer questions."
Several education leaders will make brief presentations at the start of the forum. Audience members will then be invited to join the panelists in the discussion.
Presenters include:
Two UW-Eau Claire faculty members will share their thoughts about what students should know and be able to do when they get to the university level. The faculty are Erik Hendrickson, a professor of physics and chair of the physics and astronomy department; and Carmen Manning, associate professor of English.
The forum is sponsored by the UW-Eau Claire College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Education and Human Sciences and the UW System administration, in cooperation with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
For more information, contact Christian at 715-836-2542.
