Spaces Remain in Spring
Continuing Education Art Courses

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education/UW-Extension's spring 2008 Accessible Arts Series has a few openings left.

Designed for adults interested in expressing themselves artistically, the series offers non-credit courses for beginners and beyond.

All courses will be held in the Haas Fine Arts Center on the UW-Eau Claire campus. Spring 2008 courses include:

  • "An Introduction to Pastels" will run from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays Feb.16-March 15 (no class March 8). Designed for those with some basic drawing and composition skills who are interested in experimenting with a new artistic medium, this course is taught by Barbara Erdman. Students will acquire techniques such as blending, cross-hatching and layering. They will practice their techniques in projects, including still life, portraits and landscapes. The fee is $155, plus cost of materials.
  • "Discovering Indigenous Art" will run from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays March 26-April 30. Students will use carving tools, acrylic paints and sand-painting techniques as they explore distant cultures and beliefs through indigenous art forms from around the world. Susan Sveda-Uncapher is the instructor. The $195 cost includes materials.
  • "An Introduction to Acrylic Painting" will be held from 9 a.m.-noon Saturdays May 24-June 21 (class ends at 11 a.m. June 21). Designed for beginners, it covers color, form, expression, pictorial space and content. It is taught by Jill Olm. The fee is $155 plus cost of materials.
  • "Drawing: For the Absolute Beginner" will run from 9 a.m.-noon Saturdays May 24-June 21 (class ends at 11 a.m. June 21). Designed for beginners, the class covers creating line, shape, texture and shaded form. It is taught by Kim Yearman. The cost is $155, plus cost of materials.
