UW-Eau Claire Forensics Team Takes First in Tournament

RELEASED: Dec. 19, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire forensics team took first place at the Mike Nicolai Individual Events Tournament held Dec. 5-6 at UW-Stout.

Following are individual results from the tournament:

Junior Nick Miller, Hales Corners, took first and qualified for the National Forensics Association Tournament in informative speaking. He also took first in impromptu speaking, second in persuasive speaking, second in the individual sweepstakes, second in a duo interpretation with junior Laura Magnusson, Apple Valley, Minn., and fourth in musical interpretation.

Magnusson also took second in informative speaking, fourth in the individual sweepstakes, sixth in program oral interpretation, sixth in prose interpretation and sixth in dramatic interpretation.

Senior Katie Nichols, Pembine, placed first in persuasive speaking, and placed second and qualified for the NFA in poetry. Senior Justin Rudnick, Stanley, placed first and qualified for the American Forensics Association Tournament in poetry and placed fourth in program oral interpretation.

Junior Emily Schreiner, Wausau, took second in rhetorical criticism, third in informative speaking and fourth in persuasive speaking. Freshman Patrick Martin, Burnsville, Minn., took third in duo interpretation with freshman James Kust, Eau Claire, and fifth in impromptu speaking.

Junior Jessica Walter, Eau Claire, took fourth and qualified for the NFA in after-dinner speaking and took sixth and qualified for the NFA in poetry. Freshman Natalie Hunter, Vadnais Heights, Minn., placed fourth and qualified for the NFA in poetry.

Junior Jake Johnson, Eau Claire, took fifth in extemporaneous and sixth in informative speaking. Sophomore Holly Albers, Mazeppa, Minn., took fifth in poetry.
