Four UW-Eau Claire Classified Staff Members Announce Retirements

EAU CLAIRE — Four members of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire classified staff have recently retired or announced their upcoming retirement.

Paul Diedrich, a management information manager in Learning and Technology Services, will retire at the end of December after 37 years of service to UW-Eau Claire. He began as management information specialist and general applications programmer in the data processing programming area, and in 1975 was promoted and moved to system analysis in computer services. In 1978, he was promoted again to a management information supervisor position. Diedrich served as interim director of Computing and Networking Services from September 1993 to February 1999. Diedrich has made significant contributions throughout his career.

Marjorie Frankenberger, a program associate in Records and Registration, will retire in January 2009 after 27 years of service. She held numerous part-time positions in the Records and Registration office starting in January 1982. She also worked part-time in the Campus School as a child care counselor. In October 1990, she began a permanent part-time job as a program assistant in Records and Registration, where she and a co-worker job shared as scheduling coordinators. In December 2001, her position was increased to 75 percent and it became full-time in November 2005. Her title was changed to university service program associate.

Gary Grundman, a senior power plant operator, retired in November after 18 years in the heating plant. He started his service at UW-Eau Claire as a part-time facilities repair worker and later was named a power plant operator. In November 1990, he became a permanent power plant operator. Throughout his years in the heating plant, Grundman received multiple certifications to ensure safe operations during his work shifts.

Stephen Lawrence retired from his custodian position in July after 22 years of state service, 17 of that at UW-Eau Claire. He started his state career as a building maintenance helper in the food service building at the Northern Wisconsin Center for the Developmentally Disabled. In May 1991, he transferred to UW-Eau Claire, and in 1992 he was named a custodian. In 1996, he was promoted to a custodial supervisor position in the food service area, and in February 2006 Lawrence transferred to a custodian position in University Centers. From there he transferred to University Recreation & Sports Facilities, where he served until his retirement.
