UW-Eau Claire Freshman from Chippewa Falls
to Receive Etnier Scholarship

RELEASED: Aug. 7, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — Yer Yang, Chippewa Falls, has been awarded a Don and Jan Etnier Hmong Freshman Scholarship to attend the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire this fall. The scholarship, available through the UW-Eau Claire Foundation, is available to an incoming UW-Eau Claire freshman Hmong student with a strong academic record, financial need and demonstrated potential for success in college.

The Etniers, who established the scholarship, have assisted the Hmong people throughout the Chippewa Valley in various ways for more than 30 years. Jan was the first tutor for the first Hmong student to graduate from UW-Eau Claire, and Don was on the board of directors of the Hmong Mutual Assistance Association and the campaign treasurer for the late Joe Bee Xiong when he ran for the Wisconsin State Assembly in 2004.

UW-Eau Claire is consistently recognized by U.S. News & World Report and other national publications as one of the nation's best educational values and among the top public regional universities in the Midwest. For more information on scholarship opportunities, visit the UW-Eau Claire financial aid Web site.
