UW-Eau Claire Offers Supervisory Management Seminars

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education/UW-Extension will present several workshops from the Supervisory Management Certificate program in May and June.

  • "Supervisory Management 2" will be held May 7-8 in La Crosse at the Cleary Alumni and Friends Center on the UW-La Crosse campus and on May 15-16 in Eau Claire at Sweetwaters Restaurant. Topics include establishing orientation policies and procedures, understanding communication behaviors, time management, delegating and developing your employees.
  • "Supervisory Management 3" will be held June 3-4 in La Crosse at the Cleary Alumni and Friends Center on the UW-La Crosse campus and on June 12-13 in Eau Claire at Sweetwaters Restaurant. Topics include working toward more effective coaching, establishing job expectations and critical skills in the coaching process.
  • Negotiation Skills" will be held May 8-9 in Eau Claire at Sweetwaters Restaurant. Topics include negotiating project deadlines; work assignments; budget and human resource allocations; and strategies, skills and motivations for negotiating win-win outcomes. Participants will apply the concepts to everyday interactions and specialized contract or conflict situations.
  • "Maximizing Performance" will be held June 4-5 in Eau Claire at Sweetwaters Restaurant. Topics include creating an environment for excellence, identifying what you are really rewarding, fine-tuning coaching and goal-setting techniques, diagnosing performance problems, and turning around undesirable behaviors and rewarding desirable behaviors.
  • "Managing Your Diverse Workforce" will be held June 10-11 in La Crosse at the Cleary Alumni and Friends Center on the UW-La Crosse campus. Topics include age and gender differences; adaptation to differences; approaches to managing different people; and barriers to productivity, communication and work satisfaction.
  • "Tools and Techniques for On-the-Job Training" will be held June 17-18 in La Crosse at the Cleary Alumni and Friends Center on the UW-La Crosse campus. Topics include how to set up one-to-one job instruction training for efficient task mastery, job documentation, training checklists and how to adapt to various trainee learning styles.

  • "Taking Charge of Change" will be held June 18-19 in Eau Claire at Sweetwaters Restaurant. Topics include the impact of proposed changes on employees, customers, and suppliers; why people naturally resist change; how to overcome resistance; and strategies for minimizing the potential trauma that changes may create in people and firms.

All workshops meet from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Individual course fees are $425 per person and include lunch, breaks, materials and instruction. The group fee is $375 per person for three to five people from the same firm attending the same session and registering at the same time. Designed for managers, supervisors and small business owners, the workshops may be taken individually or as part of the certificate program requirements.
