UW-Eau Claire Symphony Band
to Perform Spring Concert April 27

RELEASED: April 18, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Symphony Band will perform its spring concert at 5 p.m. April 27 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The Symphony Band, directed by Phillip Ostrander, assistant professor of music, will begin with "Bali" by Michael Colgrass, followed by "California Suite" by John Gibson. Next, Concerto No. 2 for Clarinet by Carl Maria von Weber will feature sophomore Rachel Kelm, Owatonna, Minn., the winner of the Symphony Band Student Concerto Competition.

The Symphony Band also will perform "Gnomon" by Thomas Duffy; "Urban Samba" by Michael Cunningham, UW-Eau Claire professor emeritus of music; and "Amazing Grace" by Frank Ticheli, featuring junior Matt Gullickson, Mankato, Minn., the winner of the Symphony Band Student Conducting Competition. The concert will conclude with "Grand Serenade for an Awful Lot of Winds and Percussion" by P.D.Q. Bach (Peter Schickele).

Tickets, available at the University Service Center, 715-836-3727 or 800-949-UWEC, are $5 for the general public; $4 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.50 for students with a university ID.
