Moves Toward Final Event May 3

RELEASED: April 18, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — Students in Free Enterprise at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will host the first annual Battle of the Bands on Water Street from noon-6 p.m. May 3.

Water Street will be blocked off from 3rd Avenue to 5th Avenue, and the stage will be in front of the Pioneer Tavern. The event is free and open to the public.

Three preliminary competitions are being held at Higher Ground on upper campus. Eight bands have already competed, and the battle continues Saturday, April 19, and Saturday, April 26, at Higher Ground for the remaining 16 bands.

Two bands are selected each night, and the top six bands from the original 24 will move on to the finals and perform on Water Street. The winner will perform at Summer Fest in Milwaukee.

"This is the first year that SIFE is sponsoring the Battle of the Bands on Water Street," said junior Michael Campeau, Eau Claire, security coordinator for the event. "We are expecting great bands and a huge turnout."

The event is sponsored by radio station WDRK FM (The Carp), the Leader Telegram, Mona Lisa's Restaurant, Mogie's Pub and Restaurant, Toppers Pizza and Rally Communications.
