Still Time to Register for Fifth Annual
Caring for the Caregiver Workshop

EAU CLAIRE — There is still time to register for "Creative Coping: When Caring Becomes Routine," presented by The Healing Place Grief Support Center of Sacred Heart Hospital. The program will be held from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. May 8 at the Ramada Convention Center in Eau Claire.

The program is designed for physicians, nurses, social workers, funeral directors, chaplains, nursing home administrators, hospice administrators, counselors, psychologists and others who care for bereaved people.

Presenter Dr. Darcie Sims is a nationally certified thanatologist, certified pastoral bereavement specialist, and licensed psychotherapist and hypnotherapist. She is an internationally recognized speaker, author and editor for Grief Digest. Sims is president and co-founder of GRIEF Inc., a grief consulting business, and the director of the American Grief Academy in Seattle. She is a diplomate in clinical hypnotherapy.

The workshop will explore the issue of caring overload and offer tips on coping with the stress of accumulated loss. Topics covered in the presentation include definitions and signs of symptoms of stress, burnout, compassion fatigue and caring overload; discovering and understanding your coping style; stress management tools and techniques; first aid for burnout; and creating a personal plan for survival.

The conference fee is $85 for registrations received or postmarked by April 24 and $95 for registrations received or postmarked April 25 or after. The fee includes instruction, program materials, refreshment break, lunch and parking.
