Jazz Ensemble II to Perform
Spring Concert April 17

RELEASED: April 15, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Jazz Ensemble II, under the direction of Robert Baca, professor of music, will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. April 17 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The program will begin with "Anvil Chorus" by Glenn Miller and will feature freshman Joe Tierney, Shawano, on tenor saxophone; senior John Lydon, Edina, Minn., on trumpet; and junior Brian Claxton, Pepin, on drums. Next will be Duke Ellington's "Cottontale," with Tierney on tenor saxophone; sophomore Alex Chilsen, New Richmond, on piano; senior Corey Cunningham, Holmen, on alto saxophone; and junior Kyle Siegrist, Green Bay, on trombone. The first half of the concert will conclude with "E.S.P" by Wayne Shorter, featuring Phillip Ostrander, assistant professor of music, on trombone, and Hoagy Carmichael's "Georgia on My Mind," featuring a tenor saxophone solo by Joe Tierney.

The second half of the concert will begin with Gordon Goodwin's "Under The Wire," featuring Cunningham on soprano saxophone; "If Only I Had You" by Irving King, with a solo vocal performance by senior Lauren Buelow, La Crosse; and "They Will Know We Are Christians by Our Love" by Carolyn Arends, featuring Dan Calderon, Culver City, Calif., on tenor saxophone. The concert will conclude with Michael Abene's "Oleo," with Chilsen on piano and Siegrist on trombone.

Tickets, available at the University Service Center, 715-836-3727 or 800-949-UWEC, are $4 for the general public; $3 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and free for students with a university ID.
