Volunteers Over 50 Needed for
UW-Eau Claire Training and Balance Study

RELEASED: April 10, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire senior Kelly Abel, Ettrick, and senior Stephanie Bickel, Oconto, along with assistant professors of kinesiology Lance Dalleck and Jeffrey Janot, are searching for 48-64 volunteers aged 50 and over to help with their research study, "Effects of Different Training Modalities on Balance in an Adult Population."

The study will take place from 6-8 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 5-Aug. 31, at UW-Eau Claire in the McPhee Physical Education Center and the Crest Wellness Center on upper campus.

The researchers are asking for the public's help and cooperation in a collaborative project investigating the relationship between different training modalities and the effects they have on balance. The purpose of this study is to better identify which type of workout (strength, power or aerobic) increases an individual's performance during different balance tasks.

Participants should not already be regularly engaging in any moderate or high levels of physical activity.

If interested in participating in the study or for questions regarding it, contact Abel at abelkm@uwec.edu or 608-484-1221, or Bickel at bickelsm@uwec.edu or 920-373-7859.
