Increase Business Opportunities through
Disability Accommodation

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education will present "Becoming Accessible: Increasing Opportunities for your Business through Disability Accommodation" from 8:30 a.m. to noon May 7 at the Plaza Hotel & Suites in Eau Claire.

Designed for business owners, managers, human service professionals, customer service professionals and others interested in disability issues, the program addresses challenges faced by the large and growing market of people with disabilities and steps businesses can take to increase their accessibility.

The program presenters are Dr. Katherine Schneider and Dr. Nancy Rasmussen. Schneider is a retired clinical psychologist who has been blind since birth. She has lectured locally, regionally and nationally on access issues and written articles and a memoir, "To the Left of Inspiration: Adventures in Living with Disabilities." Rasmussen is an instructor at UW-Eau Claire where she teaches diversity courses for business majors. She recently completed her dissertation, which investigates workplace experience with accommodation and disability.

Topics to be covered include the following:

  • How to comply with ADA accommodation requirements without making extensive building changes
  • Guidelines to avoid costly litigation
  • How to perform a self-evaluation of accessibility concerns and opportunities for your business
  • Market potential of consumers with disabilities
  • How to increase business opportunities by accommodating disabilities
  • Ways to increase comfort level and effectiveness when dealing with consumers with disabilities

The program fee is $79 per person and includes a participant handout, refreshments and Continuing Education Units.
