Student Graphic Designer Recognized for
Two UW-Eau Claire Promotional Campaigns

RELEASED: April 8, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — Two promotional campaigns created for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire by a student graphic designer received honorable mentions in the 2008 associationwide promotion and marketing competition of the Association of College Unions International. Winning entries were exhibited and the awards presented at ACUI's 88th annual conference March 16-19 in New Orleans.

Maria Nocenti, from Oshkosh, was recognized for the design of a 24-page season booklet, full-color posters and other promotions for the current season of The Forum, one of the nation's longest continuing lecture series, and the Artists Series, which brings world-class performances to the university community. She also was recognized for her promotion of the 2007 Summer Session Programs series of concerts and films. The entry included a four-color brochure that opens into a calendar-of-events poster, and posters and table tents created for the eight-week series. Both programs are administered by the Activities and Programs office of the University Centers.

Nocenti began working as a student graphic designer in the University Centers information design services area in September 2004. She graduated with a bachelor of fine arts degree in December. Nocenti was the only student from a Wisconsin school whose work was recognized in the ACUI "Steal This Idea" competition.

The University Centers is a Student Services unit of UW-Eau Claire and a long-time member of the Association of College Unions International. ACUI has served the college union and student activities field since 1914, and its members represent nearly 1,000 campuses around the world. The annual Steal This Idea competition awards excellence in college union and student activities graphics and marketing materials.

Other institutions that received awards in the student division of the competition were the California State University campuses at Long Beach, Los Angeles and Northridge; the University of Southern California; Boise State University; Northwestern University; the University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign; Louisiana State University; Eastern Michigan University; the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor; the University of Cincinnati; The Ohio State University; Oregon State University; Southern Oregon University; University of North Texas; and Texas State University-San Marcos.
