Dr. B. Alan Wallace will present "The Conscious Universe: Where Buddhism and Physics Converge." He will discuss what is currently known about consciousness and how those ideas fit with Buddhist teachings.

The event is free and open to the public.

Wallace is the president and founder of the Santa Barbara Institute for Consciousness Studies. He has published numerous books, including "Contemplative Science: Where Buddhism and Neuroscience Converge," "The Taboo of Subjectivity: Toward a New Science of Consciousness" and "Buddhism with an Attitude: The Tibetan Seven-Point Mind-Training." Wallace's research focuses on scientific investigations of nature, origins and the role of consciousness, and the study of human well-being and positive psychology. He also is a frequent translator for and collaborator with the Dalai Lama. Wallace has a bachelor's degree in physics and philosophy of science from Amherst College and master's and doctoral degrees in religious studies from Stanford University.

CVDSR was established two years ago by UW-Eau Claire faculty and community members to help people better understand issues relating to both science and religion. The initiative encourages organized discussions, brings science and religion experts to campus, and guides high school science teachers in addressing questions that touch on religion.

For more information, contact Dr. Charlene Burns, associate professor of philosophy and religious studies and CVDSR program coordinator, at cvdsr@uwec.edu or 715-836-2545.
