New Internship Available for
UW-Eau Claire Information Systems Students

RELEASED: Sept. 19, 2007

Roehl Transport Inc. logoEAU CLAIRE — A new internship is providing University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire information systems students with the opportunity to work on actual professional projects for a national trucking corporation. Applications are currently being accepted from students interested in a paid internship with Roehl Transport Inc., one of the 100 largest truckload carriers in the nation.

The internship consists of working for Roehl Transport Inc. 10 hours a week for one semester and 40 hours a week during the summer. Students, working under the supervision of a faculty member and Roehl Transport employees, will be assigned to manage actual information systems projects for Roehl Transport Inc. The student will remain on campus and telecommute via a laptop computer provided through the internship.

"The Roehl Transport internship provides students the opportunity to become directly involved in how information systems are designed, developed, and implemented within organizations while staying here at UW-Eau Claire," said Matt Germonprez, assistant professor of information systems, and coordinator of the internship.

Students will gain job experience, said David Grassl, vice president for technology, for Roehl Transport Inc. "Roehl is investing in the IS internship program to provide students the experience solving real world business problems with technology solutions," Grassl said. "Students get to learn more about Roehl Transport and how technology is used in the transportation (trucking) industry."

One of the goals for the internship is to improve recognition of Roehl Transport Inc. within the information systems department as a company that is actively pursuing quality information system majors. The information systems department also hopes the internship will attract more high quality information system students.

"We believe offering a high-quality internship program will improve visibility of the IS major across the College of Business and the university and thereby increasing the number of majors in the information systems department," Germonprez said. "The internship is a real win-win opportunity for students, Roehl and the university."
