Media Memo: UW-Eau Claire named among top colleges by teen magazine

TO: News/Assignment Editors and Directors

FROM: Judy Berthiaume, Director

DATE: Sept. 19, 2007

SUBJECT: UW-Eau Claire named among top colleges by teen magazine

CosmoGIRL! magazine has included UW-Eau Claire in its list of the best 100 co-ed colleges and universities in the country.

UW-Eau Claire is the only public Wisconsin school on the list, which is included in the magazine's October 2007 issue and appears on the publication's Web site.

According to the CosmoGIRL! Web site, the publication chooses colleges and universities for its "Best 100 Colleges" list that offer things like excellent women's sport, leadership opportunities and small class sizes. Additional features they consider include campus safety, diversity, quality of instruction, internship opportunities, city suitability, student satisfaction and experiential learning opportunities.

Several UW-Eau Claire students provided the publication with information about their experiences at UW-Eau Claire and in the Eau Claire community. Phoenix Park, the Viennese Ball and the university's commitment to wellness issues (including women's health) were among the things those students highlighted. Several student comments can be found on the CosmoGIRL! Web site.

CosmoGIRL! editors also used information provided by The Princeton Review to compile its "100 Best Colleges" list. In August, UW-Eau Claire was named by The Princeton Review as a 2008 Best Midwestern College.

Kristina Anderson, executive director of enrollment services, is available to discuss the rankings and what makes UW-Eau Claire so attractive to bright and ambitious students. You can reach Anderson at 715-836-5415 or anderskc@uwec.edu.
