UW-Eau Claire to Offer Tour
of Shanghai in May 2008

Shanghai skylineEAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire professor and Shanghai native Dr. Simei Tong will lead "Between Modernity and Tradition: A Tour of New Shanghai" May 17-25, 2008. Preview sessions are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, in Room 308 of Hibbard Hall on the UW-Eau Claire campus and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education office, 210 Water Street.

The tour is designed to promote cross-cultural understanding. The itinerary includes visits to the following:

  • Longhua Pagoda
  • Shanghai Botanical Garden
  • The Museum of Shanghai
  • Nanjing Road — the No. 1 business street in China
  • Hangzhou — capital of Zhejiang province and one of China's most important tourist venues
  • The Bund waterfront area
  • The Oriental Pearl TV Tower
  • Zhujijiao or Zhou town with buildings from the Ming and Quing Dynasties and the Life-free Bridge
  • Shanghai Oki Town God Temple
  • Yuyan Gardens
  • Dinner at the famous Xin Ya restaurant and an evening cruise on the Huang Pu River.

The cost of the tour is $1,900 double occupancy; single occupancy rooms are available for an additional $300. The tour cost does not include airfare. Complete information is available online.
