EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Concert Choir will present a concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

According to Gary Schwartzhoff, professor of music and director of the Concert Choir, the songs performed in this concert will serve as the basis of the choir's repertoire for its summer 2008 European tour to Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic.

"Composers from each of these countries are featured in our fall program," said Schwartzhoff.

The Concert Choir will open the performance with "Gaudete Omnes" from "Caniones Sacrae" by Jan Pieterzoon Sweelinck. Works by Jacob Handal, Henryk Gorecki, Hugo Distler, John Tavener, David Dickau, Rene Clausen, and Frank Ticheli also will be performed in the first set of music.

The second half of the concert will begin with Impromptu, a mixed voice a cappella group, performing their arrangements of Rossini's theme from "The Barber of Seville," Tears for Fears singer Roland Orzabal's "Mad World" and "The General" by the band Dispatch.

In their final set, the Concert Choir will perform "All My Heart This Night Rejoices" by Z Randall Stroope, "Rockin' Jerusalem" by André Thomas, and "Danny Boy," as arranged by Joseph Flummerfelt. The concert will conclude with "Wade in de Water," an African American folk song arranged by Allen Koepke.

The UW-Eau Claire Concert Choir has traveled to Europe on seven concert tours between 1964 and 2004, including appearances at the 50th and 60th Anniversaries of the D-Day Invasion in France. In 2006, the Concert Choir was presented an international award for artistic excellence and cultural exchange in Naples, Italy, from the Fondazione Laboratorio Mediterraneo, an international organization that promotes peace, understanding and cultural exchange. The choir has released four CDs, including, most recently, "An Amazing Day" in 2004.

Tickets, available at the University Service Center, 715-836-3727 or 800-949-UWEC, are $5 for the general public; $4 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.50 for students with a university ID.
