Strategic Planning at UW-Eau Claire
to Be Topic of Alumni Association Luncheon

RELEASED: Oct. 16, 2007

Let's Do Lunch postcardEAU CLAIRE — For many people in higher education, the idea of strategic planning falls somewhere between a trick and a treat — and for some it's downright scary. At an Oct. 31 luncheon, Mary Jane Brukardt, special assistant to the chancellor for strategic planning, will take a look at why planning at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is coming out of the shadows and how it's involving the campus and the community. Brukardt will give a presentation titled "Strategic Planning — Trick or Treat?" from noon to 1 p.m. at Sweetwater's Restaurant The presentation is part of the UW-Eau Claire Alumni Association's "Let's Do Lunch" series.

Brukardt joined the chancellor's staff at UW-Eau Claire this spring and since then has helped launch a campuswide planning and continuous improvement effort that has engaged literally hundreds of faculty, staff and students. She came to Eau Claire from Spokane, Wash., where she coordinated strategic planning for Eastern Washington University. She also served as an assistant to the chancellor at UW-Milwaukee, with whom she has co-authored two books and a monograph on institutional planning, change and university engagement. In addition to higher education, she has experience working with foundations, nonprofit organizations and Fortune 500 companies as a communicator and speechwriter.

The Nov. 28 "Let's Do Lunch" speaker will be Sean Hartnett, a UW-Eau Claire professor of geography and anthropology. His talk will be titled "The Lower Chippewa River Greenway: A World-Class Natural Area."

The speaker series is open to the public. The cost is $10 per session and includes the presentation, buffet, beverage, tax and tip. To reserve tickets, send e-mail to alumni@uwec.edu or call 715-836-3266 for more information
