Manpower to Make Services Available
on UW-Eau Claire Campus

RELEASED: Oct. 16, 2007

Manpower logoEAU CLAIRE — Career Services at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire has taken yet another step to help UW-Eau Claire students and Chippewa Valley employers and businesses get connected.

The Career Services office has entered into a partnership with Manpower to provide employment services on campus. A representative from Manpower will be available in the Career Services office eight hours per week from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays and from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursdays to help students, alumni and family members of UW-Eau Claire faculty and staff find part-time or full-time jobs in the Chippewa Valley.

According to Jeanne Skoug, director of Career Services, Manpower won the contract through a bid process made available to all staffing services in this area. Students and others will use the service free of charge, she said.

"This is an exciting win-win for UW-Eau Claire and Manpower," Skoug said. "The university pays nothing to Manpower to provide these helpful services, and Manpower taps into our talented employment pool."

In addition to job search assistance, Manpower will provide resume and interview counseling as well as campuswide human resource Webinars on a variety of work-related issues, Skoug said.

Skoug said Manpower also will participate in "Explore Your Possibilities Week," an event Career Services is hosting on campus Oct. 15-19 to help students find out about the many opportunities available in the Chippewa Valley. More than 60 businesses will be represented on campus Tuesday through Thursday.

"In a survey we did a few years ago, 62 percent of UW-Eau Claire students indicated they would like to stay in the Chippewa Valley if they could get an appropriate job in their field," said Skoug. "However, only about 26 percent of those students did get connected with an opportunity in this region. We hope this partnership with a community business with expertise in this area will increase that percentage and allow us to retain more UW-Eau Claire talent in the Chippewa Valley and better serve both our students and area employers."

Skoug wanted to stress that this service is available not only to students, but also to alumni and the families of students, faculty and staff members. She said anyone who would like to take advantage of this service should call Career Services, at 715-836-5358 or toll free 800-939-8973, to make an appointment with the Manpower representative.
