UW-Eau Claire Marking October
As Disability Awareness Month

RELEASED: Oct. 9, 2007

EAU CLAIRE — Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich has declared October to be Disability Awareness Month at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Events on campus include the following:

  • Ribbon-cutting Ceremony
    The ceremony, scheduled for noon Monday, Oct. 15, in the Hibbard Hall parking lot, will celebrate the recently redesigned parking lot entrance that features a universal design concept ramp to provide safe and easy access.
  • Disability Awareness Celebration/Reception
    The reception, which will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, in the Presidents Room of Davies Center, will honor Services for Students with Disabilities Scholarship recipients, Student Senate poster contest winners and faculty awardees Dr. Margaret Devine and R. Rosemary Battalio, who have been exceptionally supportive of the needs of students with disabilities.
  • Student Senate 2007 Disability Awareness Poster Contest
    Poster submissions will be showcased in Davies Center Oct. 22-27.

The Office of Disability Employment Policy of the U.S. Department of Labor has declared October to be National Disability Employment Awareness Month. This year's theme is "Workers with Disabilities: Talent for a Winning Team," which was designed to draw attention to the millions of Americans with disabilities who, according to Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao, "are an underutilized reservoir of ambition, talent and skill ready to make great contributions in the workplace."
