UW-Eau Claire to Participate in
Money Smart Week Wisconsin Initiative

RELEASED: Oct. 4, 2007

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will participate in Money Smart Week Wisconsin. This week of programming, Oct. 7-13, is part of a public awareness initiative to increase financial wellness among Wisconsin citizens. It is aimed at building financial knowledge so students and staff can deal with their money more quickly, confidently and shrewdly. There will be sessions on paying for college, scholarship searching, budgeting, utilizing financial advisement services, studying/retiring abroad, and money management. These sessions are free and open to all students, faculty and staff. All are presented in Davies Center unless otherwise noted.

The schedule of sessions is as follows:

  • Monday, Oct. 8 — "Protecting Yourself Against a Dollar Collapse When Studying or Retiring Abroad" — Dr. Fred Kolb, noon, Alumni Room
  • Tuesday, Oct. 9 — "Does it Make Sense to Pay an Expensive Financial Expert for Advice" — Dr. Wayne Carroll, noon, Alumni Room, AND "Living in the Real World knowing more about credit reports, credit cards, budgeting, and checkbook balancing" — Heidi Wheeler and Judy Dachel of Royal Credit Union, 6:30-8 p.m., Towers Hall TV Lounge (pizza will be served)
  • Wednesday, Oct. 10 — "Scholarship Searching" — Financial Aid Staff, noon, Arrowhead Room
  • Thursday, Oct. 11 — " Paying for College" — Financial Aid Staff, noon, Potawatomi Room, AND "Living in the Real World knowing more about credit reports, credit cards, budgeting, and checkbook balancing" — Heidi Wheeler and Judy Dachel of Royal Credit Union, 6:30-7:30 p.m., Badger Room (snacks provided)

Participants are invited to bring a lunch during noon sessions.
