EAU CLAIRE — Singer-songwriter Ari Herstand will play three free concerts at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Oct. 12-13. His solo shows begin Friday at 11:30 a.m. and 8 p.m., and Saturday at 8 p.m. in The Cabin, the Davies Center coffeehouse.

A Madison native who now calls Minneapolis home, Ari Herstand mixes acoustic pop, folk, hip hop, rock and jazz with a percussive acoustic guitar style and a distinct looping technique.

"He's not your average guy with an acoustic guitar," wrote the Badger Herald of Madison. "Think jam man Keller Williams, with an air of Dave Matthews and (more energetic) hints of Jack Johnson and Norah Jones."

Herstand's 2005 debut CD "Baby Eyes" has been heard on over 250 radio stations nationwide and on MTV's reality program "The Real World." His second release, "One Take" (2007), is a live album that features his unique looping and slap guitar style incorporating beat boxing, trumpet, acoustic guitar, vocal harmonies and piano.

For the past two consecutive years, Herstand has played at Summerfest in Milwaukee and at the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas, and he has performed with such artists as Joshua Radin, Cake, Sister Hazel and Phil Vassar.

Cabin performances are free and open to all ages. Soft drinks, domestic and imported beer, specialty coffee drinks and tea are sold at all evening programs. Proof of age is required for alcohol purchases. For a complete schedule, contact the Activities and Programs office, 715-836-4833, or visit the Cabin Web site.
