'Doing Business with China' to Be
Presented by UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education

China currencyEAU CLAIRE — "Doing Business in China," another Doing Business Globally event sponsored by University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education, the Wisconsin Department of Commerce International Division, UW-Eau Claire Small Business Development Center, NanoRite, and the Geo Group Corporation, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the Holiday Inn-Campus Area in Eau Claire. The program is designed for businesses currently exporting or intending to export to China.

Program speakers are Roy Bauer, retired chief operations officer and president of Pemstar Inc. in Rochester, Minn.; Duane Blaine and Gordon Anderson, both of C.H. Robinson International in Eden Prairie, Minn.; Scott Olson, president of Integrated Design Solutions in Chippewa Falls; Jonathan Fritz, attorney at Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek in Madison; and Pauline Klaffenboeck, vice president of Global Trade Services and M&I Bank in Milwaukee. These experts will share critical knowledge gained from doing business with China and provide tips on how to effectively enter this important emerging market. Discussion will include the following:

  • The benefits and cautions of operating manufacturing businesses in China
  • The Chinese banking system and payment options
  • Freight forwarding process
  • Product classification, valuation, and country of origin issues
  • Intellectual property protection
  • Working with Chinese suppliers

The program fee is $79 per person for registrations received by Oct. 31; $99 for registrations received after Oct. 31. There is a $25 fee for students. Lunch is included and provides the opportunity for table discussions with program speakers.
