EAU CLAIRE — First Fridays will give senior citizens a glimpse of the world "Behind the Camera on an Eco-Tour" on Dec. 7, with Eau Claire resident Steve Ambroe. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. for breakfast and the program will follow at 9 a.m. at Christ Church Cathedral, which is on the corner of Lake and Farwell streets in downtown Eau Claire.

Ambroe, an eco-tour videographer, will take the audience to exotic places as he shares stories of his recent travels. He will share video clips and discuss traveling in areas ranging from the Arctic to Antarctica. From penguins to fjords to desert islands, this is guaranteed to be an amazing journey.

Ever since grabbing the family video camera in the mid 1980s, Steve Ambroe has taken a keen interest in the field of video production. A native of Minnesota, he graduated from Carleton College where he gained an appreciation for ethnographic and documentary film as an anthropology major. For the past three and a half years he has worked extensively with Lindblad Expeditions, which, in partnership with the National Geographic Society, excels at finding unique encounters with wildlife for the guests aboard its fleet of small ships.

For the safety of the senior audience, the event will be cancelled if the Eau Claire Area School District has cancelled or delayed classes because of hazardous weather.

First Fridays programs are presented on the first Friday of each month October through May, except in January, at no cost to the senior community. People with season passes that are stamped each month will be eligible for a prize drawing at the May presentation.

The program is funded in part by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Foundation Community Outreach Program for the Arts, the Great Harvest Bread Company and Elliot Roberts. First Fridays is coordinated by Beverly Soll and Jennifer Brockpahler of the Activities and Programs office and is hosted by Scott and Heather Kirby of Christ Church Cathedral.

The mission of First Fridays is to provide no-cost entertainment and educational experiences for area senior citizens through shared community and university sponsorship.
