UW-Eau Claire Women's Concert Chorale
to Perform Fall Concert Nov. 18

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Women's Concert Chorale will present a concert at 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The Women's Concert Chorale is directed by Alan Rieck, associate professor of music, and will be accompanied by sophomores Anna Torgerson, Prior Lake, Minn., and Brandon Covelli, Racine. The ensemble will open with "Nun Fanget an" by Hans Leo Hassler, followed by Ron Nelson's "Vocalise" and Franz Schubert's "Ständchen."

The second set in the performance will consist of Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck's "Lascia Filli, mia cara," "Dancing" by Scott Tucker and "The Snow" by Edward Elgar, featuring seniors Laura Wenzel, Appleton, and Mary Heimerman, Shoreview, Minn., on violin.

The second half of the concert will open with "Pentatonic Alleluia" by Ross Whitney, featuring student conductor Courtney Karns, North Pole, Alaska. Next will be Sven Lekberg's "Let All the World in Every Corner Sing."

The final set of selections will include Arne Mellnäs' "Aglepta," and "Ain'-A That Good News!" as arranged by William Dawson. The concert will conclude with "We Are" by Ysaye Maria Barnwell.

The Women's Concert Chorale specializes in the study and performance of music written specifically for treble ensembles. In addition to regular concerts throughout the academic year, the group tours and is featured during the annual UW-Eau Claire Viennese Ball. Past tours have included a performance as a feature ensemble at the Wisconsin Music Educators' Association Fall Conference in October 2002, the ensemble's first international tour to the People's Republic of China in March 2005, and a performance as a featured ensemble at the Wisconsin Choral Directors Association convention in Madison in January 2007. In March 2008, the ensemble will perform at the North Central Division Convention of the American Choral Directors Association in Fargo, N.D.

Tickets, available at the University Service Center, 715-836-3727 or 800-949-UWEC, are $5 for the general public; $4 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.50 for students with a university ID.
