Symphony Band and Wind Symphony
to Perform Fall Concert

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Symphony Band and Wind Symphony will present a concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The Symphony Band, directed by Phillip Ostrander, assistant professor of music, will open the performance with "Wild Nights" by Frank Ticheli, followed by "Bugs" by Roger Cichy. The Ensemble's next selections will be "Resting in the Peace of His Hands" by John Gibson, and "Chorale and Shaker Dance" by John Zdechlik. The final selection for the Symphony Band's portion of the concert will be "British Eighth" by Zo Elliot.

The Wind Symphony, conducted by Richard Mark Heidel, associate professor of music, will perform next feature guest conductor and euphonium soloist Dr. Kenneth Kroesche, professor of music at Oakland University in Rochester, Mich. The Wind Symphony will open with "Exultate" by Samuel Hazo and "Turning" by John Mackey, followed by "Napoli" by Herman Bellstedt and "Gloriosa" by Yasuhide Ito. The Ensemble will conclude their performance with "Scherzo for Band" by Gioacchino Rossini.

While on campus, Kroesche also will perform a guest artist recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, in Gantner Concert Hall. The recital is free and open to the public. He will teach a master class from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, Phillips Recital Hall.

Kroesche has appeared with a number of ensembles including a guest appearance as a concerto artist with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. He has also become a regular conductor for the Michigan Chamber Brass, and recently accepted a position as musical director and conductor of the Capital Brass Band of Lansing, Mich.

Tickets for the Symphony Band/Wind Symphony concert, available at the University Service Center, 715-836-3727 or 800-949-UWEC, are $5 for the general public; $4 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.50 for students with a university ID.
