UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education
to Offer Variety of Summer Programs for Kids

Summer Institute imageEAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education will offer an array of learning opportunities to Chippewa Valley youth this summer, including Summer Institute, SmART Summer Art and the Chippewa Valley Museum Day Camps.

Summer Institute will be held June 18-28 in Chippewa Falls and July 9-19 in Eau Claire. More than 1,000 students in grades K-8 take advantage of the program's summer enrichment classes each year. This year, both sessions include a kindergarten program for children who will enter kindergarten in the fall of 2007. Summer Institute classes cover many subject areas, including math, science, language arts, social studies, foreign languages, creative arts, music and sports. Presented in two-hour periods from 8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., classes emphasize hands-on, interactive learning.

SmART Summer Art will be held on the UW-Eau Claire campus July 30-Aug. 10. It offers specialized art classes for students in grades 6-12. This year's program includes classes in photography, book art, medieval art and ecological art. .

The latest additions to Continuing Education's youth programs, Chippewa Valley Museum Day Camps, are open to students in grades 3-6. Two camps will be held this summer: Farm Life Adventures, Aug.6-10, and Museum Mysteries, Aug.13-17. Camp will meet from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday at the Chippewa Valley Museum in Carson Park. Flexible registration options allow students to participate for one day, two weeks, or anything in between.

UW-Eau Claire Summer Youth Program brochures will be delivered to both public and private elementary and middle schools in Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls. Parents whose children have not received a brochure by April 2 should contact their schools. Home school or out-of-district parents may contact the Continuing Education office for a brochure.

Summer Institute and SmArt program tuition is $65 per class, with some additional fees for class materials. The Chippewa Falls and Eau Claire school districts pay some tuition costs for these two programs for students residing within these two districts. Charter Bank also pays tuition for one Summer Institute class for children who opened a College Fund Account on or before May 1, 2006.

Chippewa Valley Museum Day Camps are $45 for a full week or $10 for a single day. District and Charter Bank tuition credits do not apply to this program. Parents will be responsible for the full camp fees.

UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education will accept registrations on a first-come, first-served basis beginning April 2 at 210 Water St. in Eau Claire. Registrations can be faxed to 715-836-5263.
