Center for Service-Learning to Hold
9th Annual Service-Learning Recognition Breakfast

RELEASED: March 28, 2007

Service-Learning logoEAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Center for Service-Learning will host the 9th Annual Service-Learning Recognition Breakfast from 7:15 to 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center. A social time is scheduled at 7 a.m., breakfast will begin at 7:15, and the recognition program will start promptly at 7:30.

The theme for this year's breakfast is "Helping Communities Blossom; Planting Seeds of Service."

According to Dr. Donald Mowry, director of the Center for Service-Learning, in the past 11 years UW-Eau Claire students have served a total of 701,910 hours in the community. "This is a very conservative estimate, as many students continue to serve the community beyond their 30-hour requirement," said Mowry.

The event will recognize students, project supervisors from service-learning community partners, faculty/academic staff mentors and alumni for demonstrated excellence in service-learning.

"New this year will be a special recognition of the Service-Learning initiative of the Eau Claire Area School District," said Mowry, "an initiative that is working toward the day when all students in the district have the opportunity to help their communities blossom by completing at least one service-learning project as part of the curriculum at each of the three levels of our public school system — elementary, middle and high school."

For more information, contact Benita Wagner, program associate in the Center for Service-Learning, at 715-836-4649 or wagnerbj@uwec.edu.
