Program for Camp Nurses
Offered by UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education

RELEASED: March 26, 2007

EAU CLAIRE — "Bats, Bugs and Band-aids: A Nurse Goes to Camp" will be held at the Wisconsin Lions Camp in Rosholt. The program starts at noon May 10 and concludes at 4:30 p.m. May 11.

Designed for registered nurses and licensed practical nurses, the program will present information necessary for a successful camp nursing experience. Topics include an introduction to camp as a community that values health, routine camp nursing tasks, clinical aspects of camp nursing, control of communicable disease, and dispelling the myths surrounding homesickness. A Wildnerness First Aid Certification course is also included.

Registered Nurse Linda Ebner Erceg will lead the program. She is the executive director of the Association of Camp Nurses and is currently associate director for Health & Risk Management at Concordia Language Villages where she administers health services for a camp program with over 10,000 villagers annually.

The program fee is $249 and includes four meals, refreshments, overnight accommodations at the camp, 13 hours of instruction, instructional materials including "Wilderness First Aid: Emergency Care for Remote Locations," Wilderness First Aid Certification, and 15.25 Nursing Contact Hours
