EAU CLAIRE — Eleven students who are candidates for University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire bachelor of fine arts degrees will display their work in a senior BFA art show. The exhibit will run March 29-April 18 in the Foster Gallery of the Haas Fine Arts Center. An opening reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 31.

The studio art exhibit will include paintings and drawings, ceramic vessels, prints, and a large-scale installation. The graphic design exhibit will include photography, posters, booklets, packaging, digital pieces and graphic design pieces. All of the pieces at the exhibit communicate information about the artists and how they see the world.

Kim Peterson, Chippewa Falls, will exhibit prints she made based on inspiration from architectural and natural landscapes of the Chippewa Valley. In the printing process, Peterson sees a cycle of change that can be applied to her everyday life.

"I find the relationship that I develop with the print process fascinates, repels and challenges me to explore my emotions and my ability to accept and understand change in my own life," Peterson said.

In his photographs, Daniel Kleinschmidt, Middleton, creates a fantasy world and landscapes inspired by hiking trips to New Mexico, the Badlands, the Appalachian Trail and the Swiss Alps. Kleinschmidt said he wants to express solace, serenity and beauty in his work, along with inspiring creativity in other photographers.

Nate Durtschi, Waukesha, will exhibit print media ranging from packaging design to brochure and poster design. Durtschi said he has been heavily influenced by the skateboarding culture and Swiss poster design.

Joan Marie Crane, Eau Claire, will display paintings and drawings in acrylic, watercolor and charcoal.

"The elements in my paintings and drawings work together to create an atmosphere of a place in time," Crane said.

Other exhibitors include Richard Conlin, Eau Claire; Lisa Gruhlke, Eau Claire; Brian Hankes, Eau Claire; Diana Roux, Rice Lake; Andrea Seeley, Eau Claire; Zach Stensen, Augusta; and Sara Stone, Eau Claire.

Foster Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, and 1 to 4:30 p.m. weekends. For more information about gallery exhibits, contact Foster Gallery director Tom Wagener at 715-836-2328.
