EAU CLAIRE — Vanessa Peters and Ice Cream on Mondays will present three free concerts at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire March 29-31. The shows will begin at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday in The Cabin of Davies Center.

Voted one of the top 10 folk artists in Austin, Vanessa Peters is well known in her home state of Texas, and her relentless touring schedule is making her name in the rest of the world, as well. In the last two years, she has crisscrossed America twice and toured in Italy, Germany and the Czech Republic, both as a solo artist and with her Italian trio, Ice Cream on Mondays. They will visit 25 states on their current tour.

"Little Films" (2006) is the fifth studio album from Peters and the second she has done with Ice Cream on Mondays. The album is a blend of indie-rock and alt-country that evokes Wilco and Aimee Mann.

"Born in Dallas but now an Austin resident, Vanessa Peters is the best kind of singer-songwriter: astute enough to explore the deeper recesses of relationships but tough enough to avoid the pitfalls of sentimentality," wrote the Dallas Observer in its January review. "'Little Films,' produced by Peters along with Salim Nourallah, is folk-pop of a rare quality. Encompassing a pleasing assortment of styles ('60s retro jangle, confessional '70s soft rock and modern alt-country), 'Films' features a baker's dozen of well-thought-out songs played with just the right amount of grit. ... Sounding like a cross between Lucinda Williams and Chrissie Hynde, Peters' voice is capable of making even the most difficult situations come off as optimistic. The fact that her fine backing band keeps the proceedings sprightly is just a bonus on an already well-built collection."

The show is open to all ages. Soft drinks, domestic and imported beer and popcorn will be sold; proof of age is required for alcohol purchases.

The Cabin program is sponsored by the University Activities Commission of the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate.
