Online Graduate Program to Address Demand for
Directors of Special Education and Pupil Services

RELEASED: June 25, 2007

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire special education department, in partnership with Continuing Education, will introduce an online graduate program designed to address the increasing demand for directors of special education and pupil services. The program is approved by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and supported by the Wisconsin Council for Administrators of Special Services. The 12-credit program may be applied toward a master's degree in special education from UW-Eau Claire or can serve as an added credential to a current master's degree.

The program is open to individuals who hold a master's degree and licensure in special education, administration, leadership or school psychology or a master's in education in a licensure area recognized by the Wisconsin DPI, plus school administrator licensure. Only those candidates who have already completed "Special Education Law" (SPED 782) are eligible to begin the program this summer. SPED 782 will be offered again early next summer, and is a pre-requisite to the other courses in the program: "Leadership in Special Education" (SPED 786, begins July 9 for those who have completed 782); "Leadership in Pupil Services" (SPED 787, offered fall 2007); and "Practicum: Leadership in Special Education and Pupil Services" (offered spring 2008).

To register, for additional program information, or to request reasonable accommodations for disabilities, please call 715-836-3636/toll-free 866-893-2423, use the Wisconsin Relay System (711), visit the Continuing Education Web site, or email ce@uwec.edu.
