EAU CLAIRE — A library services professional with 17 years of university library experience has been named director of libraries at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

John Pollitz, currently associate university librarian for public services and innovative technology at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Ore., will start Aug. 1 in his new position at UW-Eau Claire.

"John Pollitz brings a wealth of experience in leadership positions at both small and large campus libraries," said Andrew Phillips, UW-Eau Claire's interim associate vice chancellor for academic affairs and dean of graduate studies. "He also has many significant professional contacts in our region, and he has a wonderful vision for the future of our library."

As UW-Eau Claire's director of libraries, Pollitz will provide leadership and planning for UW-Eau Claire's library services and information resources by working with academic departments, support units and administrative offices. He also will work with other UW System library directors to enhance the system's delivery of collections and services.

"I bring a strong commitment to providing every opportunity possible for students, undergraduate and graduate, to reach and exceed the limits of their imagination and curiosity," Pollitz said. "I am committed to helping students gain the insights and skills that will allow them to succeed in an information-rich environment where critical thinking skills are needed not only during their days at the university but throughout their lives."

Pollitz also previously served as director of O'Keefe Library at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa, and as an assistant library director at Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill. He earned a bachelor's degree in history from Southern Illinois University; a master's degree in history from the University of Denver, where he also was a doctoral candidate; and a master's degree in library science from the University Iowa.
