Tip Sheet for the week of June 11, 2007

RELEASED: June 11, 2007

Story Idea
Business growth and expansion over the past several years have meant good news for UW-Eau Claire graduates, according to the university's most recent Career Services survey. Ninety-five percent of the 2005-06 UW-Eau Claire graduates responding to the survey were employed or continuing their education a year after graduation. And according to a new report from the National Association of Colleges and Employers, the outlook for 2006-07 graduates is even better. NACE's Job Outlook 2007 Spring Update shows that employers have revised their earlier hiring projections up by almost two percent, indicating they expect to hire nearly 20 percent more new college graduates in 2006-07 than they did in 2005-06.

Seventy percent — or 1,302 of the 1,870 graduates from 2005-06 — responded to the employment survey. Of the 740 graduates who responded to questions about their employment locations, a majority — 54 percent — are working for businesses and organizations in Wisconsin, and 21 percent are working in the Chippewa Valley. For more information, contact Jeanne Skoug, Career Services director, at 715-836-5358 or jmskoug@uwec.edu.

UW-Eau Claire jazz students and local jazz groups will perform at noon weekdays throughout June on the Central Campus Mall. (Rain site is The Cabin in Davies Center.) He plays the piano, accordion and woodwinds with ensembles ranging from jazz combos to such local bands as Daredevil Christopher Wright and Fat Maw Rooney. Recently Hobert toured with Five by Design, a Minneapolis-based vocal group, and he heard the debut of one of his compositions at UW-Eau Claire's Jazz Ensemble I spring concert.

Calendar Note
Eight-week Summer Session classes begin June 11 and continue through Aug. 3.
